MAYOR GIULIANI PROCLAIMS HISPANIC PARADE DAY IN NEW YORK CITY

United Hispanic American Parade to be Held on Sunday, October 10th

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today proclaimed October 10, 1999 as Hispanic Parade Day in New York City in honor of the United Hispanic American Parade to be held this Sunday. The United Hispanic American Parade is held annually on Fifth Avenue, where Hispanic Americans and New Yorkers from different countries of origin come together to celebrate their common heritage.

"Today we honor the important contributions New Yorkers of Hispanic heritage make to our City and we salute the United Hispanic American Parade, one of the City's most colorful parades," Mayor Giuliani said. "I have always believed that the key to our strength and success as a city is the fact that New York is the most diverse City in the world.

"Hispanics of all nationalities have helped transform New York City into the Capital of the World. I invite all New Yorkers to take part in this wonderful cultural celebration on Sunday," the Mayor concluded.

Joining the Mayor at today's proclamation ceremony were Deputy Mayor Ninfa Segarra, Vicente mena, President of the United Hispanic American Parade, Juan Benitez, Vice-President of the United Hispanic American Parade and Emilio Cassnelo, Consul General of Spain.

The United Hispanic American Parade will be held this Sunday, October 10th, as thousands of New Yorkers representing 52 different Hispanic organizations march up Fifth Avenue from 44th Street to 79th Street. This year the parade honors the traditions, culture and influence of the motherland, Spain.
