MAYOR GIULIANI SIGNS BILL THAT NAMES THE BAY EIGHTH STREET BALLFIELDS IN BROOKLYN AS THE "ANTHONY MOSOMILLO MEMORIAL BALLFIELDS"

-Remarks By Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani At Public Hearing On Local Laws-

The next bill before me, Introductory Number 471, is sponsored by Council Members Golden, Ognibene, Fiala, and Oddo. This bill would name the Bay Eighth Street Ballfields, located on Bay Eighth Street and Cropsey Avenue in Brooklyn, as the "Anthony Mosomillo Memorial Ballfields." It should be noted that former Council Member and now Judge John Fusco was the original prime sponsor of this bill. The legislation was also drafted by Council Member Oddo when he was an aide to former Council Member Fusco.

Anthony Mosomillo was born on January 30, 1962 and was raised in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn. In 1984, Anthony Mosomillo joined the New York City Police Department and served for more than 14 years in the 60th and 67th Precincts. While assigned there he received departmental recognition for his outstanding work.

On May 26, 1998, while attempting to serve a bench warrant within the 67th Precinct, Officer Mosomillo was shot and killed.

Therefore, in recognition of his service to the community and ultimate sacrifice, it is fitting that the Bay Eighth Street Ballfields, located on Bay Eighth Street and Cropsey Avenue, be renamed the "Anthony Mosomillo Memorial Ballfields."

For the reasons previously stated, I will now sign the bill.
