MAYOR GIULIANI READS TO STUDENTS AT P. S. 68 IN QUEENS

Helps Celebrate The 100th Day of the School Year

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today joined School Principal Carol Wertheimer, parents, teachers and the students of Public School 68 in Queens, as they celebrated school togetherness, cooperation and learning on the 100th day of the school year. As part of the celebration, the Mayor read from his book, "What Will You Be?" to second graders.

"This school have demonstrated how cooperation, commitment to quality education, and dedication to the future of our children can do wonders for our the education system and for our students," the Mayor said. "It is a pleasure to see the level of involvement of the parents, students and teachers at P.S. 68. This is the kind of educational atmosphere that helps our children to be successful. "

"What Will You Be?" provides children with a fun way of practicing their reading skills with its catchy prose and colorful, stimulating illustrations. At the same time, it allows them to focus on their personal and professional goals for the future.

The book, inspired by Mayor Giuliani and written and illustrated by Kristin Doney, was published last summer by the New York City Public/Private Initiatives. Funding was made possible through a $25,000 grant from Goldman, Sachs & Co. Bookmart Press donated the printing of 10,000 copies.

Copies of the Mayor's book have been donated to all elementary school libraries, and all branches of the New York Public Library.
