Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today congratulated the recipients of the 26th annual Sloan Public Service Awards Ceremony at the Great Hall of Cooper Union in Manhattan. Each year the Fund for the City of New York presents the Awards to honor outstanding civil servants whose work performance, integrity, and commitment to the public transcends the extraordinary.
"The dedication to public service and commitment to the quality of life of our City that the men and women we honor this evening have displayed through their careers is an extraordinary example of the sense of duty and a level of competency of our City employees," said Mayor Giuliani. "New York City thanks each one of you for serving the people of this City with excellence. You represent the best the City has to offer."
Joining the Mayor were Deputy Mayor Ninfa Segarra; William Diamond, Commissioner of the Department of Citywide Administrative Services; Dr. Mary McCormick, President of the Fund for the City of New York; Matina Horner, Chair of the Board, Fund for the City of New York; Bishop Joseph M. Sullivan, Chair of the Awards Selection Panel and Michael Teitelbaum, Program Officer of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. This year's Sloan Public Service Awards recipients are:
The Fund for the City of New York is an independent private operating foundation and public charity established by the Ford Foundation in 1968. Its mandate is to be responsive to the problems of New York City and to create opportunities to improve the performance of its government and the quality of life of its citizens. For the past 13 years, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation has helped support the Fund's Public Service Awards.
