MAYOR GIULIANI PURCHASES FIRST JETS T-SHIRT FROM MODELL'S SPORTING GOODS FEATURING NUMBER ONE J-E-T-S FAN FIREFIGHTER ED ANZALONE AND HIS BROTHER FRANK

Portion of Proceeds to Benefit Firefighters' Widows and Children

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today purchased the first Jets-T shirt featuring the likeness of New York City firefighter Ed Anzalone atop his brother Frank's shoulders delivering his famous J-E-T-S chant. Modell's Sporting Goods has agreed to sell the T-shirts and donate one dollar from every sale to the Uniformed Firefighters Association Widows & Children's Fund.

"This year, the Jets have energized all New Yorkers with victory after victory," Mayor Giuliani said. "Now, Modell's and Ed and Frank Anzalone have found an exciting way to capture that enthusiasm and channel it to a very noble cause, helping firefighters' widows and children. I am thrilled to purchase the first Anzalone Jets-T shirt today and look forward to watching the Jets beat the Jacksonville Jaguars tomorrow."

The Mayor was joined at City Hall by Modell's Sporting Goods President Mitchell Modell, Fire Commissioner Thomas Von Essen, Uniformed Firefighters Association representative Tom DePalma and Ed and Frank Anzalone.

The T-shirts went on sale Friday, January 8 at Modell's Sporting Goods stores in the New York-New Jersey area. One dollar from the sale of each shirt will be donated to the Uniformed Firefighters Association Widows and Children's Fund, which over the last four years has donated one million dollars to firefighters' widows and children.

Ed Anzalone has been a New York City firefighter since 1987 and works out of Ladder Company 28 in Harlem, one of the busiest fire companies in the City. He has been leading Jets fans in his trademark cheer, "J-E-T-S. Jets! Jets! Jets!" for 15 years.
