MAYOR GIULIANI SIGNS BILL THAT ADDS THE NAME "REV. R. D. BROWN PLACE" BETWEEN EASTERN PARKWAY AND EAST NEW YORK AVENUE IN BROOKLYN

Remarks By Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani At Public Hearing On Local Laws

The next bill before me is Introductory Number 353, sponsored by Council Members Boyland, O'Donovan and Robinson. This bill would add, through the posting of an additional sign, the name "Rev. R. D. Brown Place" to the area between Eastern Parkway and East New York Avenue in Brooklyn.

Randolph Brown was born on June 6, 1906 in Pine View, Georgia. He earned a Bachelor of Theology degree and was later honored with a Doctor of Divinity degree.

Rev. Brown became the pastor of the Mt. Ollie Baptist Church and later served on the National Baptist Convention Board of Directors for many years. Rev. Brown became the most prominent pastor in the Brownsville community and was called upon to negotiate matters in dispute, controversies and other issues in which the Baptist Churches needed his expertise. In addition, his input was vital to the development of the Nehemiah Homes.

In honor of the service Rev. Brown gave to his community, it is fitting that this bill would add the name "Rev. R. D. Brown Place" to the area between Eastern Parkway and East New York Avenue in Brooklyn.

For the reasons previously stated, I will now sign the bill.
