MAYOR GIULIANI SIGNS BILL THAT ADDS THE NAME "BROOKLYN CONSERVATORY WAY" TO SEVENTH AVENUE BETWEEN LINCOLN PLACE AND BERKELEY PLACE IN BROOKLYN

Remarks By Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani At Public Hearing On Local Laws

The next bill before me is Introductory Number 241, sponsored by Council Members Fisher, Pinkett and Fusco. This bill would add, through the posting of an additional sign, the name "Brooklyn Conservatory Way" to Seventh Avenue between Lincoln Place and Berkeley Place in Brooklyn.

The Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, which was founded in 1897, has been a cornerstone of New York City's musical arts community for the past 100 years. The Conservatory's two campuses, one in Queens and the other in Park Slope, Brooklyn, have provided excellent professional training in music as well as giving free and subsidized musical instruction to people of all ages.

As a tribute to the unique role that the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music has played in the communities of Brooklyn and Queens, it is fitting that this legislation add the name "Brooklyn Conservatory Way" on Seventh Avenue between Lincoln Place and Berkeley Place, on the site of the Park Slope campus.

For the reasons previously stated, I will now sign the bill.
