STATEMENT ISSUED BY MAYOR GIULIANI CONCERNING JUSTICE WEISSBERG'S DECISION TO UPHOLD AMENDMENTS TO THE TAXI AND LIMOUSINE COMMISSION'S REGULATIONS

"Justice Franklin Weissberg's decision today to uphold fourteen of the fifteen amendments to the Taxi and Limousine Commission's (TLC) regulations is a great victory for all New Yorkers. The judge, in a careful and well-reasoned opinion, upheld the wisdom and legality of all of the major initiatives undertaken by Chairperson Diane McGrath-McKechnie and the Taxi and Limousine Commission, with the exception of one aspect of one of the new amendments. Although the Commission's failure to adhere to all of the requirements of the Open Meetings Law was ruled a technical violation by the Court, the judge concluded that this had no effect on the final outcome. Members of the public, including the taxi industry, were given a full and fair opportunity to voice any concerns they may have had about the TLC's amendments."
