"In January, I asked the Task Force to develop a sensible and humane plan that would not just reduce our Special Education enrollment, but would give children a chance to succeed. I believe the steps this task force is recommending will provide the support our children will need, as well as put them into the settings that are best for them over the long run. Our past practice of unnecessarily placing these students in Special Education was, to be blunt, cruel. It must and will end. The Board of Education's real work is just beginning as they move to implement this plan. I thank this task force for their efforts."
