MAYOR GIULIANI GIVES KEYS OF THE CITY TO MICKEY ROONEY, "THE WIZARD" IN NEW PRODUCTION OF THE WIZARD OF OZ AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN. MAYOR RECEIVES KEYS OF EMERALD CITY.
Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani helped the cast of the new stage production of the Wizard of Oz to announce their upcoming multi-city national tour and their New York run at Madison Square Garden. To celebrate their New York appearances, the Mayor presented legendary actor Mickey Rooney, who plays The Wizard, with the keys of the City of New York. In turn, the Mayor was presented with the keys of Emerald City, and the opportunity to inspect the Yellow Brick Road.
Rooney, who shared several title roles with the original film's Dorothy, Judy Garland during his over 50 feature film credit career, and accompanied her to the premiere of the movie is only one of the main attractions of the production. The cast also includes Eartha Kitt as The Wicked Witch of the West and Jessica Grove as Dorothy.
The New York presentations open May 1st and continue through May 31st at The Theater at Madison Square Garden.
