STATEMENT BY MAYOR RUDOLPH W. GIULIANI, REGARDING BROOKLYN JUNCTION MALL

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today issued the following statement concerning his opposition to the development of the Brooklyn Junction Mall in the Bay Ridge/Boro Park section of Brooklyn.

"While this Administration strongly supports new retail development because of the job opportunities and economic revitalization it brings to communities, in this case, I am opposed to the proposed development of the Brooklyn Junction Mall. Economic concerns are not the only issue here. This proposal will be harmful to air quality and will bring burdensome traffic to the neighborhood which the community cannot accommodate.

"We share the concerns of the community and believe that this project will adversely impact the quality of life for residents and local merchants."
