MAYOR GIULIANI HOSTS RECEPTION TO CELEBRATE THE MANHATTAN INSTITUTE'S NEW SCHOOL LEADERSHIP ACADEMY
(Gracie Mansion) Mayor Giuliani today hosted a reception celebrating the Manhattan Institute's School Leadership Academy which will provide an intensive three-year training program in leadership skills for approximately 150 principals and other administrators of city public schools. The Manhattan Institute's Center for Education Innovation (CEI) directs the program, which began in August.
"I am happy to welcome you to Gracie Mansion to recognize the achievements of the Center for Education Innovation, and specifically to inaugurate the School Leadership Academy, another CEI program that is both intelligently conceived and engineered," Mayor Giuliani said. "The intensive three-year program, which trains principals both in-house at CEI and on-site in the schools themselves, will help our administrators be as strong, skilled, and as innovative as they can be. This, in turn, will help get the most out of every teacher and student.
"Since its founding in 1989, CEI has been a leading source for serious, inventive, intelligent and immediate reform in public schools in New York City and across the nation. Programs like these never lose sight of the ultimate goal, which is to facilitate the teacher-student relationship in the classroom and to help children learn. This is a wonderful program and I wish it genuine success."
The Manhattan Institute is a nonpartisan, independent research educational not for profit organization whose goal is to develop and encourage public policies at all levels of government to allow individuals the greatest scope for achieving their potential. Founded in 1989, the Institute's Center for Education Innovation has strived to transform public education in America by shifting more accountability from centralized bureaucracies to local schools, and by creating appropriate systems of public school choice for communities. Their work empowers teachers, parents, students and community organizations to collaborate on designing innovative schools characterized by entrepreneurial leadership and high academic achievement.
