MAYOR GIULIANI ANNOUNCES PROJECT HELP TO ASSIST IMMIGRANT MEXICAN FAMILIES

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today established Project Help, a fund that will assist the immigrant Mexican men, women and children who have been victims of criminal exploitation and abuse since arriving in New York City over the past several months.

"All New Yorkers have been touched by the terrible plight of these Mexican families, almost all of whom are deaf," Mayor Giuliani said. "New Yorkers who wish to help them during this difficult time can do so by making a donation to Project Help."

Project Help is being coordinated by the Mayor's Voluntary Action Center. New Yorkers wishing to make financial donations to Project Help can send a check or money order (no cash) made payable to the New York City Voluntary Action Corporation. The donations should be mailed to the Mayor's Voluntary Action Center, 51 Chambers Street, Room 1231, New York, New York, 10007.

The Mayor's Voluntary Action Center will also accept new clothing only, Mondays through Thursdays, from 9:30 am until 3 pm, in Room 216A at 280 Broadway in Lower Manhattan.

Those wishing to make large deliveries of new clothing must make a scheduled delivery appointment by calling the Mayor's Voluntary Action Center at (212) 788 - 7550.
