MAYOR GIULIANI SWEARS IN FOUR CRIMINAL COURT JUDGES
AND THREE FAMILY COURT JUDGES
Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani appointed four Criminal Court judges and three Family Court judges at a City Hall swearing-in ceremony in the Blue Room.
The new appointees to the Criminal Court are John A. Barone, Alex M. Calabrese, Ruth Levine Sussman, and A. Kirke Bartley, Jr., and the new Family Court appointees are Martin P. Murphy, Gayle P. Roberts, and Daniel Turbow.
"Each of the men and women taking an oath today have demonstrated the integrity, dedication, and legal knowledge and experience that are necessary to uphold the law and dispense justice," said Mayor Giuliani. "Their credentials will enhance New York City's judicial system for the benefit of all New Yorkers who will be affected by their decisions. I thank them for their commitment to the bench and to the people of this City."
Criminal Court Appointments
- John A. Barone was a Civil Court Judge in New York City, who had been sitting in the Criminal Court. Admitted to the bar in 1974, he graduated from Harvard Law School in 1973.
- A. Kirke Bartley, Jr. was an Assistant District Attorney with the Office of the Queens County District Attorney. He was admitted to the bar in 1978 and is a graduate of the St. John's University School of Law.
- Alex M. Calabrese was the Principal Court Attorney to Acting Supreme Court Justice Leslie Crocker-Snyder. A graduate of Fordham University School of Law, he was admitted to the bar in 1978.
Criminal Court Reappointments
- Ruth Levine Sussman was a Family Court Judge, who had been sitting in the Criminal Court. She is a graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center and was admitted to the bar in 1984.
Family Court Appointments
- Martin P. Murphy was the Deputy Coordinator for Criminal Justice Services at the Office of the New York City Criminal Justice Coordinator. He was admitted to the bar in 1975 and is a graduate of Brooklyn Law School.
- Gayle P. Roberts was an Assistant District Attorney in the Office of the Bronx County District Attorney. She graduated from the Tulane University School of Law and was admitted to the bar in 1983.
- Daniel Turbow was the Chief of the Condemnation and Certiorari Division at the Office of the Corporation Counsel of the City of New York. He was admitted to the bar in 1979 and is a graduate of Brooklyn Law School.
