MAYOR GIULIANI ATTENDS ANNUAL "50 PLUS EXPO"

Presents Awards to The GAP and Anita Lands For Their Continued Commitment to New Yorkers Over the Age of 50

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today delivered remarks at the fifth annual celebration of the "50 Plus Expo" highlighting the significant contributions of New Yorkers over the age of 50. The Mayor, who is the Honorary Chair of this year's event, presented certificates of appreciation to The GAP and Anita Lands, Chair of the event, for their continued commitment to the 50 plus generation.

"Turning fifty is not a time to slow down; people who are turning fifty are just getting started," said Mayor Giuliani. "Over the past 50 years, dramatic innovations in technology have changed the way we live and work. Those of us over 50 will have a great advantage in the years to come, as we apply a half-century of education, training and experience to new goals and new adventures. The 50 Plus Expo will provide information needed to take advantage of all these opportunities."

"I'd like to commend Anita Lands for her outstanding efforts in guiding the Fifty Plus in their professional careers. The GAP also deserves recognition for its continuing commitment to the fifty plus population and its generosity in sponsoring this event."

Last year, 76 million baby boomers began turning fifty. Today, one out of four Americans are fifty or over. By the year 2010, one out of every three Americans will be fifty plus.

The goal of 50 Plus Expo is to present the best options and opportunities for people over the age of 50 in the areas of career and life planning. This year's Expo features lectures and demonstrations to help this population learn the complexities of social security, healthcare and financial planning. The two-day Expo also provides advice and direction to people looking for jobs or career changes.
