MAYOR GIULIANI PULLS "UNITED BRONX PARENTS" OFF THE AUCTION BLOCK

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today directed the Department of Citywide Services to remove from the auction block a parcel of land occupied by the United Bronx Parents Association (UBP). This immediate action by the Mayor averted the auctioning of the building at 771-73 Prospect Avenue in The Bronx which was to be offered at the New York City Real Estate Auction on March 27, 1997. UBP operates a day care center at the site.

"The United Bronx Parents Association provides a very valuable service to the Bronx community," said Mayor Giuliani. "After reviewing the merits and contributions of this organization, their reliable history as a tenant and considering the important legacy left by the legendary Evelina Antonetty who founded the Association in the 1970's, I've directed the Department of Citywide Services to remove this building from the upcoming auction."
Deputy Mayor Ninfa Segarra said: "UBP is an institution whose work has benefited parents and children not only in the Bronx but also in the rest of the City. I have fond memories of Evelina Antonetty. She was one of my mentors and I am happy to see her exemplary work continue through the preservation of the institution she founded."

This morning, upon learning of the scheduled auction, Mayor Giuliani immediately convened a meeting with the Department of Citywide Administrative Services. Based on the nature and quality of the services provided by United Bronx Parents, the Mayor personally decided to remove the property from the auction list.
