MAYOR GIULIANI REAPPOINTS THREE CRIMINAL COURT JUDGES, FOUR CIVIL COURT JUDGES AND MAKES A NEW FAMILY COURT APPOINTMENT

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today reappointed three Judges to the Criminal Court, four Judges to the Civil Court and made a new appointment to the Family Court bench at a ceremony in the Blue Room at City Hall.

"The judicial selection process is one of my most important responsibilities. The quality of our Judges dictates the quality of our entire justice system. And the decisions rendered by the judiciary affect the lives of every New Yorker," said Mayor Giuliani. "Each of the Judges I am reappointing and appointing today brings to their new terms experience, wisdom and a proven commitment to the bench. I am confident they will all enhance New York City's judicial system."

Criminal Court
The Mayor reappointed Judge John J. DeLury, Judge Barry Kron, and Judge Barbara F. Newman to ten-year terms on New York City's Criminal Court bench, expiring on December 31, 2006.

Civil Court
The Mayor reappointed Judges John A. Barone and Robert M. Stolz to one-year terms on the Civil Court bench in Bronx County; Judge Jerome M. Kay to a one-year term on the Civil Court bench in Kings County; and Judge Jeffrey D. Lebowitz to a one-year term on the Civil Court bench in Queens County. All the terms expire on December 31, 1997.

Family Court
The Mayor appointed Barbara Salinitro to a new seven-year term in the Family Court, expiring on December 30, 2003. A graduate of Boston University School of Law, Judge Salinitro most recently served as the Borough Chief of the Bronx County Family Court Division of the New York City Corporation Counsel. She served the Corporation Counsel with distinction for the past 13 years.
