MAYOR GIULIANI DELIVERS KEYNOTE SPEECH AT FRIENDS OF
COLEL CHABAD-LUBAVITCH INTERNATIONAL AWARDS DINNER

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani tonight delivered the keynote address at the Friends of Colel Chabad-Lubavitch annual International Awards Dinner held at the New York Hilton in Manhattan. The Mayor was presented with a plaque in appreciation for his work to improve the quality of life in New York City.

"It is a pleasure to join all of my friends from Colel Chabad for your annual dinner. As the Mayor of the world's largest Jewish city, and one of the world's greatest Jewish Cities, I am grateful to have the Lubavitchers as residents of New York," Mayor Giuliani said.

The Colel Chabad of R'Meir Baal Haness is the oldest continuous charity in Israel and one of the most important programs created by the first Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi. The sole purpose of Colel Chabad is to provide spiritual, material and social support for Jews in Israel, regardless of their origin, affiliation or degree of observance.

The legacy of the seventh Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, continues unabated through the network of day care centers, subsidized groceries, free soup kitchens, holiday programs and special aid to widows and orphans, which the Rebbe considered a personal and most cherished charity.
