"Times Square has always been New York City's most famous neighborhood. It is now in the spotlight more than ever and is a terrific example of the spectacular changes taking place throughout our great city," said Mayor Giuliani. "From the major reductions in crime to the establishment of famous stores and companies from all over the world, Times Square is being rejuvenated and transformed once again into a place where New Yorkers can bring their families and friends."
"Broadway on Broadway is an outstanding example of how New York City's traditions are keeping pace with this transformation. On behalf of our City, I want to thank the Times Square BID and the League of American Theatres and Producers for organizing this event and especially the talented creative people who shine on Broadway each night. You all truly make New York the capital of the world," he concluded.
The annual Broadway on Broadway concerts draw over 50,000 New Yorkers and visitors to Times Square. This year's concert featured numbers from shows including Rent, Bring in Da Noise, Bring in Da Funk, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Sunset Boulevard, The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Smokey Joe's Cafe, Miss Saigon, Chicago, Grease! and Cats.
