STATEMENT OF MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON EPA PROPOSAL TO CUT CARBON POLLUTION FROM POWER PLANTS

For the First Time in Agency History, EPA Seeks to Limit Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Power Plants

EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy's Announcement: http://1.usa.gov/1fhqdSp

"Administrator McCarthy's effort to set carbon pollution standards for new power plants is a critical and ground-breaking step in regulating greenhouse gas emissions. Thanks to the low price of natural gas, wind and solar, there's no reason we can't transition away from the most polluting fuels in existence. The pollution from coal-fired plants alone contributes to the deaths of 13,000 Americans every year. President Obama committed to tackle this crisis when he released his ambitious Climate Action Plan in June, and these standards move us towards the even more important need to address emissions from existing power plants that are polluting our air, changing our climate and compromising our children's health."
