MAYOR BLOOMBERG SIGNS LEGISLATION WAIVING BUILDING DEPARTMENT FEES FOR HURRICANE SANDY REPAIRS

Remarks by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg at a Public Hearing on Local Laws

“The next bill before me is Introductory Number 977-A, sponsored in conjunction with the Mayor by Council Members Ignizio, Chin, Dilan, Dromm, Eugene, Ferreras, Gentile, James, Koo, Lander, Mendez, Nelson, Williams, Wills, Comrie, Recchia, Jackson, Rodriguez, Van Bramer, Vallone, Garodnick, Crowley, Gennaro, Greenfield, Halloran and Ulrich.  Introductory Number 977-A waives Buildings Department fees associated with applications, permits and inspections for the demolition, alteration, rebuilding or repair of certain buildings and systems damaged by Hurricane Sandy.

“In an effort to provide relief to victims of Hurricane Sandy, this legislation will waive the aforementioned fees for buildings that sustained significant structural damage or were completely demolished.  This waiver will apply for construction permit applications submitted before October 31, 2014 and for electrical and plumbing applications submitted before April 30, 2013.

“I would like to thank Buildings Commissioner Robert LiMandri and his staff along with my Office of City Legislative Affairs.  I would also like to thank the City Council for approving this legislation.”
