STATEMENT OF MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON THE DEATH OF CHRISTOPHER HORTON

Today I received the terrible news that Christopher Horton, a young man who worked on my reelection campaign in 2005, was killed in Afghanistan while serving for the Oklahoma National Guard. His death is a terrible loss for his family and his many friends in New York City and beyond. I spoke to his wife Jane this morning, and she told me about how they met while Chris was working on the campaign. His death is another tragic reminder that we can never take for granted the freedoms we enjoy as Americans. We owe eternal gratitude to the men and women who have fought, and are still fighting today, to protect our liberty. My deepest condolences go out to everyone who was close to Chris, and I will keep them in my thoughts and prayers this weekend.
