MAYOR BLOOMBERG SIGNS LEGISLATION REQUIRING NOTIFICATION OF TREE PLANTINGS NEAR SCHOOLS OR HOSPITALS
Remarks by Mayor Bloomberg at a Public Hearing on Local Laws
"The next bill before me is Introductory Number 311-A, sponsored by Council Members Oddo, Arroyo, Dilan, Fidler, James, Koslowitz, Palma, Williams, Barron, Vacca, Nelson, Cabrera, Mark-Viverito, Ferreras, Halloran, Koo, Ulrich, Jackson, Gennaro, Van Bramer, Eugene and Rodriguez.
"Introductory Number 311-A requires the Department of Parks and Recreation to notify a representative of a school or hospital prior to a tree being planted by the Department on a sidewalk within one hundred feet of any entrance or exit of the school or hospital.
"I would like to thank Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe and his staff for their work on this bill along with my Office of City Legislative Affairs. I would also like to thank the Council for approving this legislation."
