STATEMENT OF MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON NEW STATE LAW REQUIRING CLEANER HEATING FUEL

Reducing Sulfur Content in Heating Fuel is a Part of the Mayor’s PlaNYC Agenda

"Governor Paterson's decision to sign legislation requiring the use of cleaner heating fuels in buildings is a major victory for clean air and public health. This bill, to reduce the sulfur content in home heating oil, has been one of our PlaNYC priorities, and I want to thank Governor Paterson for helping us make it a reality. The sponsors of this bill, Senator Bill Perkins and Assembly member Robert Sweeney, also deserve great credit for their work, as do Speaker Silver and Majority Leader Sampson. Together, their efforts will allow us to strike a major blow against asthma and help improve public health across the City's five boroughs and the entire State of New York."
