STATEMENT OF MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON THE CLOSING OF ST. VINCENT’S HOSPITAL

"Despite its best efforts, St. Vincent's could not solve its severe financial problems and will be forced to close its inpatient care services. This outcome is very unfortunate but not unexpected, and the City began preparing for this possibility weeks ago. The FDNY is prepared to begin operating the 13 ambulance tours currently provided by St. Vincent's as soon as they are needed, and while the City's Health and Hospitals Corporation is also facing its own budget shortfalls, HHC is committed to providing care to any New Yorker who needs it.  The City will also work with the dedicated staff at St. Vincent's, the Governor, the State Department of Health, and other local elected officials to make sure outpatient services remain available."
