STATEMENT OF STU LOESER, PRESS SECRETARY TO MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG, ON STATE SENATE LEADERSHIP’S FAILURE TO KEEP ITS PROMISE TO PUT SCHOOL GOVERNANCE LEGISLATION TO A VOTE

***Note attached letter from State Senators Sampson and Smith***

“On July 9, Senate Democratic leadership concluded a negotiation with one of their own members and memorialized the outcome, with Senate Democratic Conference Leader John Sampson and Senate President Malcolm Smith signing a commitment to bring S5887 to the floor. This on the same day they declared with great fanfare an end to their month of inaction. The nonsense was over; they were going back to work.

“The bill they pledged to put to a vote is the product of seven months of public input and careful legislative deliberation. The circumstances have not changed to require further negotiations, and we do not stand in the way of their agreement.”
