STATEMENT BY MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON THE RESIGNATION OF DEPARTMENT FOR THE AGING COMMISSIONER EDWIN MÉNDEZ-SANTIAGO

"This afternoon I accepted the resignation of Edwin Méndez-Santiago, Commissioner of the Department for the Aging, effective the end of this year. Over the past seven years, Edwin has served our 1.3 million older New Yorkers well by improving New York City’s senior services. His leadership has allowed seniors to more easily obtain rent increase exemptions, employment and home care. Recently, he led the agency’s work to modernize case management services and the home-delivered meals program. I thank Edwin for his service and commitment and know that he leaves a strong foundation of innovation and efficiency which will serve us well as we prepare our City for a 45 percent increase in the number of seniors living here by 2030."
