MAYOR BLOOMBERG SIGNS LEGISLATION RENAMING FOURTEEN THOROUGHFARES IN QUEENS AND MANHATTAN

Remarks by Mayor Bloomberg at a Public Hearing on Local Laws

"The next four bills before me are Introductory Number 500, sponsored by Council Members Avella and Palma, Introductory Number 608, sponsored by Council Members Addabbo, Comrie and Fidler, Introductory Number 776, sponsored by Council Members Addabbo, Comrie and White, and Introductory Number 815, sponsored by CM Gerson.

"These four bills change the names of fourteen thoroughfares in Queens and Manhattan and make corresponding changes to the New York City Map.  These changes were requested by local community groups and approved by the respective community boards to eliminate ambiguity in the existing names and eliminate confusion in locating these areas for emergency responders.

"I want to thank Department of Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan and her staff for their work on this bill.  I would also like to thank the Council for approving this legislation."
