STATEMENT BY MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON THE OCTOBER 10 VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE

"This Friday is the last opportunity to register to vote for the 2008 General Election.  Elections are the foundation of our democratic society, and the right to vote is a privilege we should never take for granted.  Hundreds of thousands of American men and women have fought and died to preserve our democratic rights, and we honor their service and sacrifice by exercising those rights in elections.  As the deadline for voter registration approaches, I encourage all New Yorkers who are eligible but not registered to vote to mail a completed voter registration form to the Board of Elections - or register in person by visiting a local Board of Elections office. Our City's Voter Assistance Commission's ongoing Voter Awareness Month events will continue to facilitate voter registration and provide all New Yorkers with greater access to crucial voter information for this election year. The November election is incredibly important, and all of us have a responsibility to make our voices heard."

Voter registration forms are available on www.nyc.gov and must be mailed or hand delivered to the New York City Board of Elections by Friday, October 10, 2008.
