MAYOR BLOOMBERG SIGNS LEGISLATION REQUIRING THE PARKS DEPARTMENT TO REPORT SOURCES OF FUNDING AND DONATIONS FROM NON-GOVERNMENTAL ENTITIES
Remarks by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg at a Public Hearing on Proposed Local Laws
"The third bill before me today is Introductory Number 699-A, sponsored by Council Members Foster, Fidler, Gentile, Gerson, James, Koppell, Liu, Mark-Viverito, Martinez, Mendez, Monserrate, Sanders, Seabrook, White, Sears and Jackson. This bill requires the Parks Department to submit an annual report to the Council of funding and donations from non-governmental entities to New York City parks.
"Transparency is a hallmark of our Administration and Introductory Number 699-A furthers this effort by providing more information on non-governmental funding to the City's parks and enhancing the public's ability to participate in our efforts to make New York City greener, cleaner and healthier.
"I would like to thank Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe and his staff for their work on this bill. I would also like to thank the Council for approving this legislation."
