STATEMENT BY MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON DECISION BY US SUPREME COURT IN CITY’S FAVOR IN TAX CLAIM CASE

"Today's decision by the Supreme Court allowing US courts to hear a dispute between the City and two sovereign nations brings us closer to finally ensuring that countries with missions and consulates in New York pay their fair share in City taxes, just as all New Yorkers do.  I congratulate Michael Cardozo, who personally argued our case, on this landmark victory in the highest court in the land.  In addition to Michael, I also want to congratulate and thank Norman Corenthal, John Low-Beer and Brad Snyder of the Law Department, who have worked extensively on the case. I also want to thank Finance Commissioner Martha Stark, my sister, Marjorie Tiven, Commissioner, New York City Commission for the United Nations, Consular Corps and Protocol and her Deputy Commissioner, Bradford E. Billet, for their hard work on this case."
