STATEMENT FROM MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON PASSAGE OF H.R. 5092

“Today the House of Representatives passed a bill that would undermine law enforcement and protect criminals.  Nevertheless, there was a silver lining: the bill clearly lost steam in the days leading up to the vote, as more members of Congress began recognizing that this bill would only make it easier for criminals to get their hands on illegal guns. This is not a partisan issue – both Democrats and Republicans voted to pass this disastrous legislation and both Democrats and Republicans stood up to vote against it.  I want to thank the members of the New York delegation who opposed this legislation, particularly Congressmen Peter King and Vito Fossella, and I look forward to working with them to convince their colleagues in the Senate to reject it.”
