MAYOR BLOOMBERG PRAISES INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF CHIEFS OF POLICE OPPOSITION TO CONGRESSIONAL LEGISLATION LIMITING LAW ENFORCEMENT ACCESS TO ATF GUN TRACE DATA

"The fight to take illegal guns off our streets is difficult enough without disastrous legislation like H.R. 5005 limiting law enforcement's ability to crack down on rogue gun dealers and keep our cities safe. The International Association of Chiefs of Police recognizes that this bill would protect lawbreakers and gun traffickers and wreak tremendous damage on police departments across our country.   I'm pleased that they've joined the growing chorus of voices in opposition to this God-awful legislation.

"Police officers put their lives on the line every single day, and Mayors and Police Chiefs must do everything possible to protect them and give them every tool they need to do their jobs.  This legislation would essentially take away one of the most effective tools - trace data - that law enforcement agencies use to hold irresponsible gun dealers accountable.  The Chiefs' opposition shows that this bill is bad for law enforcement, and I urge all those who support our police departments to stand with them."
