STATEMENT BY MAYOR BLOOMBERG ON PETER MADONIA

“I am both disappointed and proud to announce the resignation of my Chief of Staff, Peter Madonia, who is leaving the Administration to become the Chief Operating Officer of the Rockefeller Foundation.

“Peter has marshaled the resources of City government to address problems facing our City which had previously resisted being solved, among them solid waste management, chronic homelessness and the need for a water filtration plant in the Bronx.  His inventive and resourceful commitment to our City will leave a legacy that will last long after he has left its government.

“As my Chief of Staff since my first day in City Hall, Peter has streamlined the budget of the Mayor’s Office by 30%, doubling a pledge I made when I was first inaugurated to set an example to the rest of government that we could all do more with less.

“As someone with an interest in philanthropy, I applaud Peter for joining the Rockefeller Foundation, a charity with an endowment of over $3 billion. Our loss is their gain and I know that Peter’s problem-solving skills, strong work ethic and sound judgment will serve that organization well in its quest to make the world a better place.”
