“In the wake of the terrorist attacks on London, I am pleased by the Irish Republican Army’s decision to lay down their arms.   For too long the people of Northern Ireland have lived under the threat of violence and civil unrest. I hope this decision will help bring about a full and true peace for the people of Northern Ireland and I encourage the IRA and all parties to the Good Friday Agreement to match their words with deeds.”
