MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG'S STATEMENT
REGARDING AGREEMENT BETWEEN MTA AND TWU

"I am pleased that the Transport Workers Union and the MTA have reached an agreement and we have averted a transit strike. I would like to thank the staff members of the MTA who have worked so hard to negotiate a contract with the TWU. Thanks to their efforts, New Yorkers can go back about their business without a strike looming over their heads. It is heartening to know we can rely on the men and women of the Transit Authority to help us go to work, school, shop, or visit loved ones during the holiday season. I would also like to thank the dedicated employees of the City of New York who created a comprehensive contingency plan to move people around this City in the event of a strike, but I am grateful we did not need to activate it.”
