MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG SIGNS BILL REFORMING
DOCUMENTATION OF CITY WATERFRONT PROPERTY

Remarks by Mayor Bloomberg at a Public Hearing on Local Laws

"The bill before me today is Introductory Number 65, sponsored by Council Member Yassky and 23 of his colleagues. This bill will amend the New York City Charter, in relation to the preparation of reports on City waterfront property and Citywide needs.

"This bill requires that an appendix be added to the Citywide statement of needs on a biannual basis to map and describe all City waterfront property. The appendix will be a comprehensive survey of all municipally-owned parcels which will present the information in a format readily available to interested agencies, advocacy groups and citizens. An up-to-date, accurate and user-friendly catalogue of the City's waterfront property will allow us to determine whether New York City's 530+ miles of shoreline are being used to their full potential. This is the first step in a process that will allow us to identify dormant or misused lots and potentially transform them into parks, housing or commercial property in a revitalization of our waterfront property."
