MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ACCEPTS
CONDÉ NAST TRAVELER "2002 HOT CITY" AWARD
ON BEHALF OF NEW YORK CITY

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg accepted the Condé Nast Traveler Magazine's "2002 Hot City" award from Editor-in-Chief Tom Wallace today at City Hall. The award, a vintage style desktop fan and framed certificate from the world's leading travel magazine, means that New York City has more new hotels and restaurants on the magazine's May Hot List than any other city in the world.

"New York City is not just open for business but ready to welcome the world's travelers with some of the best hotels and restaurants on the planet," said Mayor Bloomberg. "There has never been a better time to visit the greatest city on Earth, where visitors will find world-class cultural institutions, unparalleled hotels, wonderful new restaurants, and exciting attractions. I want to thank Condé Nast Traveler for this prestigious award and hope that anyone thinking about visiting New York City will make the trip soon."

"The Hot List issue, one of Condé Nast Traveler's biggest and best-selling issues of the year, is about the best new hotels and restaurants around the world," said Mr. Wallace. "We are extremely proud that even in a year as tough as this one has been that New York City has maintained its position as the world's most important travel destination, and has more of the best than any other city featured."

Three of the 52 hotels and five of the 50 restaurants that made the "2002 Hot List" are located in New York City, earning New York City the "2002 Hot City" Award. Last year's winner was Sydney, Australia. The New York Hot List hotels are W Times Square, Ritz-Carlton Battery Park, and City Club. The New York City Hot List restaurants are Commissary, Craft, DB Bistro Moderne, Ilo, and Tamarind.

Condé Nast Traveler'ss May Hot List issue is the insider's guide to the newest hotels and restaurants that have opened all over the world in the last year. Condé Nast Traveler has a circulation of over 750,000 and is published by the Condé Nast Publications, Inc.
