MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG PROPOSES DATE
FOR SPECIAL SESSION OF CONGRESS IN NEW YORK CITY
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg today wrote to the Congressional leadership to propose a date for a special session of Congress to be held in New York City. The letter was addressed to Speaker Dennis J. Hastert, House Minority Leader Richard A. Gephardt, Senate Majority Leader Thomas A. Daschle, and Senate Minorty Leader Trent Lott. A text of the letter follows below:
"Dear Sirs:
As you know, Governor Pataki and I enthusiastically support New York City's hosting of a one-day joint session of Congress. We believe that Friday, September 6th would be the best day for this important display of national solidarity. I cannot think of a better message to send in the days before we mark the one-year observance of the September 11th attack.
Once the capital
of our country, New York City last hosted the Congress in 1790. I
appreciate the support you have voiced so that our City can once again
make history and continue to make America proud."
