MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG APPOINTS KENNETH HOLDEN COMMISSIONER OF
THE DEPARTMENT OF DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg today announced the reappointment of Kenneth R. Holden as Commissioner of the Department of Design and Construction (DDC), which oversees construction projects for the City of New York. DDC's client roster includes the Police Department, Fire Department, Human Resources Administration, Department of Environmental Protection, Department of Transportation and the three public library systems.
"New Yorkers are fortunate to have Commissioner Holden agree to remain as Commissioner of DDC," said Mayor Bloomberg. "Over the last four months he has done a terrific job managing the clean up of the World Trade Center and so that the reconstruction process for Lower Manhattan can begin. By coordinating the movement of millions of tons of steel and rubble, excavating one of the most dangerous work sites in the world all seemingly ahead of schedule, under budget and without a fatality, Kenneth Holden has been the unsung hero of this enormous task."
The Department of Design and Construction uses in-house resources and private consultants and contractors to perform design and construction services related to streets and highways, sewers, water mains, correctional and court facilities, cultural institutions, libraries, schools, and other public buildings, facilities and structures. Kenneth R. Holden has served as the Commissioner of DDC since 1999. He is the former First Deputy Commissioner at DDC and was the Director of the Mayor's Office of Construction. Holden has also served in numerous positions at the Parks Department and the Department of Environmental Protection between 1986 and 1993 and worked at Columbia University. He holds a BA from Columbia College in History and Geography. Holden lives with his wife, Frances, an artist, and his son, Teddy, in College Point, Queens.
