The next bill before me, Introductory Number 982, sponsored by Speaker Vallone, will name the southwest corner of 37th Street and 28th Avenue in Queens "St. Rocco's Place."
This bill will honor the patron saint of the Young Society of Quaglietta, a group founded in New York in 1911 by immigrants from the small Italian town of Quaglietta. Many people from Quaglietta settled in the Astoria section of Queens, and today about 400 families in the area trace their roots back to the small town. Each year, on the feast of the society's patron saint, society members gather at their headquarters on 28th Avenue in Astoria to honor St. Rocco.
Therefore, in honor of the traditions and contributions of the Young Society of Quaglietta, I am pleased to name the corner outside of the society's headquarters "St. Rocco's Place."
For the reasons previously stated, I will now sign the bill.
