MAYOR GIULIANI ANNOUNCES JOB FAIR FOR WORKERS
DISPLACED AFTER WORLD TRADE CENTER ATTACK

Third Free Job Fair to be Held at Madison Square Garden
On Thursday, November 15th

Over 250 Employers to Participate in Job Fair

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today announced that a third job fair to help workers displaced after the World Trade Center attack will be held at Madison Square Garden on Thursday, November 15th from 10 AM to 4PM. The job fair is open to the public and employers are encouraged to give priority to those individuals who were directly impacted by the September 11th attack. In addition, those individuals who could not be accommodated at the previous job fair will be given expedited admission to the fair. The City's first two successful job fairs were held on October 17th and October 25th.

Among the 250 employers that will participate in Thursday's fair are American Express, Bloomberg, LP, Mt. Sinai Medical Center, Barnes & Noble and Cablevision. More than 15,000 jobs in retail, finance, technology, healthcare, food service, security, and other employment fields are available.

The last Twin Towers Job Expo took place on October 25th at Madison Square Garden. More than 250 employers participated, more than 8,000 individuals attended, 41,254 job screenings or interviews took place and employers identified a total of 6,217 prospective hires. More than 35 percent of the job-seekers reported that their jobs had been affected by the World Trade Center attack.

The Twin Towers Job Expo is part of a coordinated effort by the Mayor, Governor and business and non-profit organizations to assist workers displaced by the World Trade Center tragedy.

To provide assistance to employees looking for work as a result of the attacks, the City and State have opened four Twin Towers Job Centers; created a Twin Towers Job Hotline for job seekers; and created a Twin Towers Job Bank for employers to list available opportunities.

The Twin Towers Job Centers -- in Jamaica, Queens; Lower Manhattan; Midtown Manhattan; and Downtown Brooklyn -- have served thousands of job seekers to date, connecting them to available opportunities and providing other employment-related assistance.

The Twin Towers Job Hotline also connects those seeking jobs to job opportunities and other assistance. Individuals whose employment has been affected by the attacks can call (718) 557-1332 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekends.

Businesses wishing to place jobs in the Twin Towers Job Bank -- so that the openings can be filled by those displaced or unemployed as a result of the attack -- can call (800) 935-7507 or log on to www.nyc.gov/twintowersjobs.
