MAYOR GIULIANI ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL TWIN TOWERS JOB EXPOS

Job Fairs to be Held at Madison Square Garden on
Thursday, October 25th and Thursday, November 15th

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today announced that two additional Twin Towers Job Expos will be held at Madison Square Garden on Thursday, October 25th and Thursday, November 15th. The Expos will feature more than 200 employers including MetLife, American Express, Pfizer, Modell's and Macy's. More than 13,000 job opportunities, from entry level to management, in retail, finance, technology, healthcare, food service, security, and other employment fields will be available.

The next Job Expo will take place on Thursday, October 25th from 10am to 4pm at the Madison Square Garden Expo Center located at 33rd Street and 8th Avenue. Individuals who could not be accommodated at the first job fair and were given an entry slip to present at the next job fair will be admitted on an expedited basis. The Mayor also announced that a third Job Expo has been scheduled for November 15th at Madison Square Garden.

"Based on the success of our first Twin Towers Job Expo and the tremendous response from employers and job seekers, we look forward to placing thousands more New Yorkers in jobs," said Mayor Giuliani. "I want to thank the participating employers and Madison Square Garden for helping the City move forward at this critical time."

More than 6,000 individuals attended the first job fair. The 200 employers present reported that together they conducted more than 20,324 job screenings or interviews of those attending. Employers reported considering 4,368 interviewees as prospective hires, which may include multiple offers to individuals. In addition, 56% of the job-seekers at the first job expo were seeking jobs as a result of the World Trade Center attack.

"The first Twin Towers Job Expo was a tremendous success. We were able to screen, interview and hire qualified individuals for dozens of positions," said Thomas V. Nicolosi, Group Vice-President of New York Metro Market, American Express Financial Advisors. "We want to thank the City for giving us the opportunity to meet our business needs and contribute to the City's renewal."

The Twin Towers Job Expos are part of a coordinated effort by the Mayor, Governor and business and non-profit organizations to assist workers displaced by the World Trade Center tragedy.

To provide assistance to employees looking for work as a result of the attacks, the City and State have opened four Twin Towers Job Centers; created a Twin Towers Job Hotline for job seekers; and created a Twin Towers Job Bank for employers to list available opportunities.

The Twin Towers Job Centers-in Jamaica, Queens; Lower Manhattan; Midtown Manhattan; and Downtown Brooklyn-have served more than 3,000 job seekers to date, connecting them to available opportunities and providing other employment-related assistance.

The Twin Towers Job Hotline also connects those seeking jobs to job opportunities and other assistance. Individuals whose employment has been affected by the attacks can call (718) 557-1332 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekends. To date, the hotline has received more than 6,400 calls.

Businesses wishing to place jobs in the Twin Towers Job Bank-so that the openings can be filled by those displaced or unemployed as a result of the attack-can call (800) 935-7507 or log on to www.nyc.gov/twintowersjobs.
