MAYOR GIULIANI SIGNS BILL ADDING NAME "DYKER HEIGHTS
BOULEVARD" TO 13TH AVENUE, BETWEEN 86TH STREET AND
BAY RIDGE AVENUE, BROOKLYN

Remarks by Mayor Giuliani at Public Hearing on Local Laws

The next bill before me, Introductory Number 912, sponsored by Council Members Golden and Fisher, would add the name "Dyker Heights Boulevard" to 13th Avenue, between 86th Street and Bay Ridge Avenue, in Brooklyn.

13th Avenue is the commercial center and the heart of the Dyker Heights section of Brooklyn. In an effort to foster a sense of neighborhood identity and to promote the area, a number of civic and community groups are working to enhance and beautify the 13th Avenue shopping thoroughfare. The groups plan to install new benches, erect banners and plant 75 new trees.

I am pleased, therefore, to compliment the neighborhood-building efforts of local merchants and civic groups in Dyker Heights by renaming a portion of 13th Avenue as "Dyker Heights Boulevard."

For the reasons previously stated, I will now sign the bill.
