ANNOUNCES CONTINUED JOB GROWTH IN CITY;
YEAR-OVER-YEAR PRIVATE EMPLOYMENT UP 72,800 JOBS

3,200 Private Sector Jobs Added in May;
Unemployment Figures Edged Lower to 5.2%

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani announced today that, according to the Employment/ Unemployment reports released today by the State Department of Labor, New York City continues to grow jobs at a steady rate, adding 3,200 new private sector jobs in May.

The report also indicated that year-over-year private employment is up 72,800 jobs, or 2.3%.

"Private sector jobs in New York City are being added at a steady and consistent rate," said Mayor Giuliani. "And this news couldn't be better for the City. Today's report affirms that the policies this administration put in place to support and encourage new businesses continues to pay dividends."

The Mayor also noted that unemployment figures (seasonally adjusted) edged down to 5.2% in May from 5.4% in April.
