MAYOR GIULIANI SIGNS BILL RENAMING SECTION OF
SHORE BOULEVARD IN QUEENS "VETERANS MEMORIAL BOULEVARD"

Remarks of Mayor Giuliani at Public Hearing on Local Laws

The first bill before me today is Introductory Number 927, sponsored by Speaker Vallone. The bill would add the name "Veterans Memorial Boulevard" to Shore Boulevard, from Ditmars Boulevard to Astoria Park South, in Queens.

This legislation not only pays homage to all who served our country in the armed forces, but it also helps to mark the 75th anniversary of Shore Boulevard's Veterans Memorial Monument. The citizens of Astoria and Long Island City dedicated their memorial on May 19, 1926 to honor those who served in the First World War. Today, it honors the service and sacrifices of all American veterans.

I am pleased, therefore, to help celebrate the anniversary of the Veterans Memorial Monument by re-naming a portion of the street on which it is located in honor of all the men and women who have served our nation in the military.

For the reasons previously stated, I will now sign the bill.
