The Police Department should be commended
for resisting intense pressure to rush to judgement in this case. The Department
reviewed all of the facts surrounding this incident fairly and objectively --
as they would in any case -- and their determination should be respected. The
Clinton Justice Department deemed it appropriate not to pursue any charges.
And, it is important to remember, the officers were found innocent by a jury
of their peers that included four African Americans and eight whites."
