MAYOR GIULIANI ANNOUNCES CONTINUED JOB GROWTH IN CITY;
UNEMPLOYMENT RATE CONTINUES TO FALL

1,900 PRIVATE SECTOR JOBS ADDED IN MARCH;
UNEMPLOYMENT FIGURES FELL TO 5.1%.

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani announced today that, according to the Employment/ Unemployment reports released today by the State Department of Labor, New York City continues to grow jobs, adding 1,900 new private sector jobs in March.

The Mayor also cited promising unemployment figures that show the rate falling to 5.1% (seasonally adjusted) from 5.3% in February. Though the growth in new jobs has slowed, year-over-year private employment is still up 75,400 jobs, or 2.4%.

"This is good news for New York City," said Mayor Giuliani. "The City's economy continues to show strength and resilience in spite of a sluggish national economy."
