MAYOR GIULIANI AND COMMISSIONER FARRELL DEDICATE SANITATION GARAGE IN MEMORY OF SANITATION WORKER FRANK CONSALVO

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani and Sanitation Commissioner Kevin Farrell today dedicated the Sanitation Department's Brooklyn 12 District garage in honor of Sanitation Worker Frank Consalvo who was killed in the line of duty on February 16, 2000. Consalvo worked at the Brooklyn 12 District Garage when he was fatally struck by a hit and run driver this past February while performing collection duties in the Borough Park section of Brooklyn.

"The greatness of our City is often measured by its physical appearance - from our skyline to our city streets," Mayor Giuliani said. "Frank Consalvo's contributions to his city in this regard were extraordinary. And his service is a testament to the fact that the true greatness of our City can be measured in the men and women who serve our City. That is why we are here to dedicate this Garage to his memory. For every Sanitation Worker, this plaque is much more than a reminder of the life of a co-worker. Frank Consalvo was an example for us all. His devotion and love of his family, his job, and this City will never be forgotten, because as long as each of us lives our life by the example Frank set for us, his spirit will live on."

"As we dedicate this garage in memory of the late Sanitation Worker Frank Consalvo, we share with his family their sense of loss," said Commissioner Farrell. "He will be thought of kindly by members of this Department as a hard-working man who was dedicated to his family and who was also dedicated to his job."

Consalvo began his service with DSNY on June 25, 1990. The Mayor and Sanitation Commissioner were joined by Sanitation Worker Consalvo's wife, Diane, his sons Frank and Christopher, and his brother Anthony at the dedication ceremony.
