MAYOR GIULIANI'S STATEMENT ON HRA COMMISSIONER JASON TURNER

"Commissioner Turner continues to do a superb job in carrying forward New York City's historic welfare reform, which has moved more than 600,000 people off the welfare rolls and has helped move New York City's long-entrenched welfare culture of dependency toward self sufficiency.

"The rules in question admittedly are complex. There is no allegation or evidence that Jason Turner knowingly violated any rule. He has admitted, however, that he made mistakes and he agreed to pay a fine. He also has given his assurance that he will be careful in the future to comply with these rules now that he has been made aware of them."
